Meanings

Coming of age

Being yoked to God, spiritual connection

Readiness for marriage

Information

The septum piercing is a piercing of the thin skin on the inside tip of the nose. Septum piercings are often curved, and septum rings are often circular in shape, and can either be an open loop or a closed loop.

In Native American traditions, septum piercings are given as a symbol after rites of passage including after successfully returning from their spiritual quest in the wilderness, and establishing a spiritual connection.

The septum piercing can signify coming of age, readiness for marriage.

Like a bull ring, the septum piercing can be a symbol of submission. The piercing in the front base of the nose can indicate that the person is now yoked to or belongs to something, such as surrendering to God or a higher power, a husband, or accepting to their dharma, their role and responsibilities within their community.
