Flexibility is a tricky thing in that it is innately tied to strength. When many people come to poses like Janu Sirsasana, the first comment I hear is, “I just have to get more flexible, I guess.” But my teacher always says, “you have to get stronger.”


Passive flexibility without strength can lead to dumping into joints and hyperextending ligaments. Sore hammies anyone?? But engaging the muscle while stretching, leads to active flexibility that protects from injury and provides increased strength.
